Network Architecture

Action By

Chun Sing presented the slide about the current status and progress of IPv6 Project.

For ICR connectivity, Roland suggested that ICR do not need to put a Co-location Router at PGP. Possible to extend the layer 2 connectivity using via the Free Space Optics (FSO) link. And for IPv4 over IPv6 tunneling, Dr.Seah suggested to use 6wind router. So, the link for v6 connectivity is purely a native v6.

For SoC connectivity, it will use a media converter to extend the L2 connectivity. The migration will be done within these two weeks.

ISP / Enterprises Connectivity

Chun Sing mentioned that ISP like Pacific Internet has to justify for the cost of having a circuit to SIX for native IPv6 connectivity.

Roland suggested to expand SIX using Free Space Optic (FSO) to Ayer Rajah ISTT Co-location Centre.

Nicholas from IDA explained that ISPs do not see the business profit of using IPv6 hence the lack of development.

3

Service and Application

Kim Chuan presented about the Service and Application on IPv6.

Dr. Seah asked about the interoperability of the services and applications that are to be implemented in the IPv6 Project.

Prof. Wong said that we need to look into the value of what we develop. Do not re-invent the wheel. If an existing product is affordable, we ought to purchase and use it.

About the WinXP stack, Kim Chuan said that the team had encountered problems with WinXP stack. Dr. Seah said that ICR has developed a stack for IPv6. Nicholas also mentioned that Microsoft just released a new version of their IPv6 stack to support the native v6 on WinXP.

Prof. Wong suggested to the team to do a technology comparison before selecting the appropriate implementation to use.

Free Space Optics (FSO)
Dr. Seah said that the vendor will sponsor the FSO only if the distance is more than 1 Km.

Timeline / Schedule

Dr. Seah asked Chun Sing about the schedule. Prof. Wong suggested that the project schedule and milestones should be presented during every meeting for the steering comm to monitor the progress of the project.
