Who can connect to SingAREN?
The connection to SingAREN is open to all Singapore Universities,
polytechnics, government-linked research centers and institutes,
collaboratories and such similar non-profit organisations involved
in research. The use is intended solely for research and collaboration
projects. Commercial use is restricted. For more information,

Who are your international peering partners?
SingAREN provides international connectivity to the next generation
internet - the Internet2.
With a connection to Abilene
in the United States, SingAREN peers with many research and education
networks, including Abilene, ESnet, Surfnet, TANet2, vBNS.
Internet2 is different from the commodity internet - know as
Internet1. Thus, all organisations connecting to SingAREN must
maintain a separate link to the commodity Internet through
a commercial Internet Service Provider (ISP).

Why should I connect to SingAREN?
By connecting to SingAREN, you gain access to a global network
infrastructure containing relevant international research centers
and organisations worldwide that are dedicated to developing technologies
for the next generation Internet. Your organisation will benefit
from being able to exchange ideas and share research findings
on an international scale, with professional groups all over the
world.

What is the current capacity of your international
link?
SingAREN currently operates a 90 Mbps (packet-over sonet) international
link from Singapore to San Jose, CA, USA. From San Jose, it is
connected to Abilene at 155 Mbps. SingAREN also has a 2 Mbps ATM
link to Korea.

What applications are used on your link?
Currently, SingAREN is supporting a distance education program,
the Singapore-MIT Alliance (SMA)
program that runs daily video conference sessions between NUS
/ NTU and MIT. This runs
on SingARENs Premium service, which uses a POS circuit with
the highest level of quality of service.
SingAREN21 broadband projects
also use SingAREN Premuim & Standard Service to carry our
their experiment and collaboration with their oversea counterparts.

How do I get connected to SingAREN?

SingAREN offers three classes of services, Premium, Standard
and Basic service which are priced at different rates. Please

How do I subscribe to SingAREN?
To subscribe to us, please complete SingAREN

and contact information are provided in the form itself.
Please allow 7 working days for processing of your application.
Note that incomplete or inaccurately filled forms will either
delay processing time or risk the chance of rejection.

How will I know if my subscription application
is approved?
Upon receiving your subscription form, we will evaluate your
requirement. If the form is in order, a letter of confirmation
will be sent to you within 7 working days confirming the type
of services, technical information, service start date, technical
and billing contacts.

Do I need to give any notice to terminate
the service?
You need to give a one-month notice for termination of service
by filling in a Service
Termination Form [
Word Format], failing which one-month service charge will be levied.

Can I switch from one plan to another if there
is a change in my requirement?
We understand that during the course of your research you may
have different bandwidth or service requirement. You can switch
from one plan to another by filling in a Service
Amendment Form [
Word Format]. The new service subscribed, if available, will
take effect on the following month.

How will SingAREN bill my organization?
SingAREN will send an invoice at the beginning of each month
to the billing address provided by you in your subscription form.
If the service commences after 1st of the month, charges for the
month service commenced will be calculated on a prorated basis
and added to the following month's bill together with the charges
of following month.

How should payment be made to SingAREN?
Payment should be made by cheque payable to National University
of Singapore, and send to our office at SingAREN c/o Computer
Centre, National University of Singapore, 2 Engineering Dr 4,
Singapore 117584, with the copy of invoice attached.

What is the name of the company if we need
to issue a Purchase Order?
SingAREN is a project funded by A*STAR to provide a high-speed
broadband network platform to support R&D and advanced technology
development in Singapore.
The subscription charges imposed is a cost recovery measure required
by the funding agency to create awareness of the costly resources,
which are made available for R&D purpose. Therefore, it will
not be appropriate to issue PO for subscription to SingAREN.
