SingAREN 20th Anniversary Celebration, 5 December 2023

7 Dec 2023 – SingAREN held its 20th Anniversary Celebration on 5 December 2023 at the NUSS Guild House at Suntec City.  A/Prof Francis Lee, President, SingAREN and Mr Jon Lau, Vice-President, SingAREN kicked off the celebrations.  70 guests, consisting of SingAREN’s members and industry partners, graced the occasion.

With SingAREN’s inception as a non-profit society since 2003, SingAREN has remained true to its core mission to serve the Research and Education community in Singapore . Throughout its 20-year journey, SingAREN has continued to provide local and international networks and services dedicated for serving the Research and Education community in Singapore.  SingAREN Open Exchange (SOE) was established in 2016 to interconnect Singapore’s research and education community to the international Research and Education Networks, including Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S.A.

This 20th Anniversary Celebration marked more than just a wine and dine social event. More importantly, it was SingAREN’s way of thanking everyone who showed their immense support in shaping SingAREN’s journey.

SingAREN presented a Posthumous Award to Emeritus Professor Lawrence W.C. Wong, who co-founded SingAREN in 1997.  For over two decades, Professor Lawrence Wong was greatly dedicated and passionate in leading SingAREN.  He was a visionary, always ready to embrace and advocate innovative Research and Education projects. SingAREN is very grateful to Professor Lawrence Wong, for his unwavering leadership and contributions to SingAREN.

SingAREN would also like to express our appreciation to SingAREN Executive Committee members, who have volunteered tirelessly in leading SingAREN’s projects and initiatives, despite their hectic day jobs.

SingAREN presented plaques of appreciation to SingAREN partners for their valuable contributions of domain knowledge and resources, for establishing SingAREN Lightwave Internet Exchange (SLIX).

SingAREN presented plaques of appreciation to SingAREN technology partners for their valuable contributions for network and technology solutions in establishing SingAREN Lightwave Internet Exchange (SLIX).

  • Bluetel Networks Pte. Ltd. is the operator for SingAREN’s dark fibre lease for the SLIX fibre core.
  • Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. provides the cybersecurity solution for threat intelligence for the SLIX network.
  • StarHub Ltd. is the operator for SingAREN’s dark fibre lease during the second phase of SLIX for expansion of SLIX fibre core.
  • Telstra Singapore provides the co-location and internet connectivity service at SingAREN’s PoPs at Global Switch and Equinix.
  • Terrabit Networks Pte. Ltd. is the operator of SingAREN’s Network Operations Centre and maintains network equipment for SingAREN.
