Networking Workshop – “Exploring Increase Bandwidth Needs and Networking Issues of NREN Community”, in partnership with Nokia and Terrabit Networks – 21 May 2024

30 May 2024 – SingAREN members were invited to an exclusive workshop at the Nokia Singapore Office on 21 May 2024. Members met up with NOKIA’s experts to exchange knowledge and discuss networking issues faced by the NREN community.

In this workshop, Nokia experts shared how Nokia derived their latest network transformation within the NREN community. They also highlighted the key trends in the industry, notably, the move to 400GE and 800GE to cope with the increasing bandwidth needs of the NREN research community.

Members were impressed with how compact the latest Nokia 7750 SR routers were in the Nokia laboratory; in parallel, live routing demonstrations around the 400GE and 800GE capabilities were showcased at their respective line rates. Network security topics around threat detection and DDoS mitigation solutions were also discussed.

A/Prof Francis Lee, President of SingAREN, summed up his view for this workshop – “As SingAREN and some of the NRENs are talking about 400Gbps deployment, Nokia’s demonstration of their 800Gbps transceivers and 400Gbps AnySec encryption device have been most impressive. It shows how fast Nokia has pushed the boundary of optical transmission.”
