Visit by GÉANT Association, 29 Apr 2024
SingAREN is pleased to host Mr Fedor Bruinewoud, Senior Procurement Manager and Mr Chris Atherton, Senior Research Engagement Officer from GÉANT Association for their visit to Singapore on 29 Apr 2024. The GÉANT Association is the collaboration of European National Research and Education Networks (NRENs).
Mr Fedor Bruinewoud shared on GÉANT Association’s network refresh projects as follows:

- GN4 Phase 3 Network project (GN4-3N): The objective is to support the rapidly growing needs of Europe’s Research and Education community for the next 15 years. The project started on 1 January 2019 for a duration of 48 months, with total budget of €50.5M. It is co-funded by the EU and Europe’s NRENs. https://network.geant.org/gn4-3n/

- GN5-IC1: The objective is to plan and implement the first phase of a new intercontinental connectivity investment programme to further support the European Research and Education community. The project started on 1 Dec 2022, for a duration of 36 months, with total budget of €15M. Mr Chris Atherton shared on an EU-funded project, SUBMERSE (SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration), which started in May 2023. The project aims to utilise existing submarine cables already used by the research and education networking community, to monitor the Earth and its systems.
